Podcast: Kim Yuna (Beginner)
Kim Yuna
Today’s podcast features a reading from our beginner-level Famous People lesson plan about South Korean figure skater Kim Yuna. In this lesson, students read a short biography about the former professional figure skater, known affectionately as Queen Yuna. Beginner learners also practice forming questions and using the verb “deserve” to talk about rewards and punishments.

Pronunciation and Spelling Note: In South Korea, the family name (Kim) is written and said before the given name (Yuna). In English-speaking countries, some people (even Korean students) switch these around (Yuna Kim). Also, the commonly used English pronunciation of Yuna (as used in this podcast) is different from the Korean pronunciation of Yu-na (yeon-a). Rumor has it that Yuna/Yu-na actually likes the English pronunciation of her name.
